The Youth Movement Minute was born out of Anthony’s experiences growing up playing sports, experience working with kids ages 8 to 18. He created “Youth Movement” Internet radio show, the goal was to interview and create dialogue with kids, parents, coaches and professionals from around the U.S. and Canada who help guide and shape our kids present and future.
Anthony grew up in an age where “free play” and playing varieties of pick-ups games mixed with organized sports where common. Things have changed over the last 20 years with youth sports becoming more and more expensive, organized, specialized, travel teams, and less free play. What we are seeing are youth under-training, over-competing, adult like training programs and schedules are being placed on them, lots of overuse injuries and in short, treating them like little professionals.
Education is key and we are all part of the process and solution(s) to help make all kids experiences memorable and positive. Whether kids play sports or not, the goal is to inspire, guide, and facilitate kids to have the intrinsic love of movement. “Slow Cooking” vs. “Microwaving” their development is the key to a vast opportunity “we” educators have to improve the quality of sport, physical activity, and the health of our nation.
