Why is that? You would think after all that has been spoken and written about time management that we would all be experts at managing our time. But we are not.
The simple truth is that most of us don’t have a good strategy for getting things done. We just do whatever is in front of us at the moment. When you say that you don’t have time to go to the gym for a work out, it is because you have too much stuff on your plate. Too tasks that are crowding out too much of your day making it impossible to schedule in anything new.
How many times have you said, “I would love to (fill in the blank), but simply don’t have the time”? Your brain will believe anything you tell it. So if you tell it that you don’t have time, then guess what? You will believe it and stop looking for ways to get it done.
If you would like to squeeze more juice out of the lemon, then here are 3 ways to help you do it:
We spend a lot of time doing things that are not important. That is a waste of time. Make a list of the things that are important to you. Now put them in order of priority. When you plan your day, make sure that you are doing the important things first. You will be shocked at what you can accomplish in a day.
Get things done when your brain is at the top of its game during the day. It is different for everyone. You may be a morning person. This means you should wake early and knock out the most important tasks of your day before the sun rises. Don’t waste the best part of the day for your brain. Learn when it is the most active and schedule your day around it.
Take complicated tasks and break them down into simple, easy to achieve activities. For example, let’s say you list “Get in shape” as one of your “important” things to do. Break it down into small, easy to accomplish activities and just start knocking them off one by one. The more complicated the task, the simpler the tasks to complete it.
